When Is Punch Excision Recommended for Acne Scars?

Punch excision uses a small circular instrument to remove the scarred core of a selected acne scar. It is mainly considered for individual ice-pick or narrow boxcar scars that are deeper than the surrounding skin. Broad rolling scars, widespread texture changes, active acne, or scars with a tendency to become raised may need another approach or a combined plan. Have active acne controlled where possible so new scars are less likely while treatment is planned.
