When is follow-up after cancer treatment recommended for MGUS?

MGUS means an abnormal antibody protein has been found without the features needed to diagnose a related blood cancer. It is usually monitored rather than treated immediately. Reviews may include a blood count, kidney function, calcium, protein measurements, and other tests selected by your clinician. The plan reflects the type and amount of protein, changes in results, symptoms, and your overall health.

Attend laboratory and clinic appointments and keep copies of results if care is shared between teams. Tell your clinician about persistent bone or back pain, unusual tiredness, repeated infections, numbness, swelling, changes in urination, or unexplained weight loss. Do not start supplements or stop medicines without checking, because kidney function and blood results can affect decisions. Ask when testing is due and how results will be explained.

Seek urgent help for severe weakness, confusion, sudden difficulty breathing, chest pain, or very little urine. Contact your clinician promptly for persistent bone pain, recurrent infections, unusual bruising, worsening fatigue, or new numbness or weakness. These symptoms need evaluation; they do not confirm progression to cancer.
