When is follow-up after cancer treatment recommended for meningioma?

A meningioma develops from membranes around the brain or spinal cord and may be treated with surgery, radiation, observation, or a combination. Review checks the treated area, remaining tumour if present, treatment effects, and your neurological function. The interval is individual and can depend on tumour grade, location, how much was removed, treatment received, symptoms, and the appearance of earlier scans.

Attend imaging and neurosurgery, neurology, or oncology appointments even when you feel well. Keep a record of headaches, seizures, vision changes, weakness, balance problems, hearing changes, or altered thinking. Bring a current medicine list and ask whether driving, work, exercise, and seizure precautions need review. Ask how scan results will be shared and which team should answer questions between visits.

Call emergency services for a first seizure, a seizure that does not stop, sudden weakness on one side, new trouble speaking, loss of consciousness, or a sudden severe headache. Contact your specialist promptly for steadily worsening headaches, repeated vomiting, new vision problems, or increasing imbalance. These signs require assessment and do not by themselves show that the meningioma has returned.
