When is follow-up after cancer treatment recommended for follicular lymphoma?

Follow-up gives your team a chance to assess recovery, discuss treatment effects and examine for changes in lymph nodes or other affected areas. Reviews may include blood tests and, when clinically needed, imaging or another investigation. The plan depends on the treatment you received, your examination and symptoms, and how your results change over time. Follicular lymphoma can require long-term contact with the haematology team, including after a period without active treatment, so keep the follow-up plan accessible.

Attend planned reviews and record new or enlarging lumps, persistent fever, night sweats, unexplained weight loss, tiredness, itching, pain or repeated infections. Tell the team about medicines, supplements and ongoing effects such as numbness or reduced energy. Ask whether blood tests are needed before each visit, how results are shared, and which service to contact outside normal clinic hours.

Contact your haematology team promptly if a lump enlarges, fevers persist, night sweats become drenching, weight loss is unexplained, or infections keep returning. Seek urgent care for severe breathlessness, sudden weakness, confusion or uncontrolled bleeding. Do not wait for routine follow-up when symptoms are rapidly worsening.

Ask what your review schedule is, which symptoms should trigger an earlier call, whether tests are needed now, how treatment effects will be managed, and who coordinates care if you move between hospitals or clinics.
