When is myomectomy recommended for uterine fibroids?

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths in the muscle of the uterus. Their position, size, number, and relationship to the uterine cavity influence symptoms and treatment choices. Myomectomy removes the fibroids and leaves the uterus in place. It may be considered for troublesome symptoms, a fibroid that changes the uterine cavity, or selected fertility concerns. Observation, medicines, uterine artery procedures, or hysterectomy may suit different situations, especially when future pregnancy is not a goal.

Record bleeding, pelvic pressure, pain, urinary or bowel symptoms, and how they affect daily life. Bring pregnancy plans and previous scan results to the appointment. Ask which route is appropriate—hysteroscopic, laparoscopic, or open—and what recovery involves. Discuss anaemia testing and treatment if bleeding has been heavy, plus the possibility that fibroids can return after removal.

Seek urgent care for bleeding that rapidly soaks pads, fainting, severe or sudden pelvic pain, fever, or a positive pregnancy test with pain or bleeding. Arrange a medical review for ongoing heavy periods, tiredness, increasing abdominal pressure, or new bladder or bowel difficulty.
