When Is Laminectomy Recommended for Spinal Stenosis?

Spinal stenosis is narrowing around the spinal cord or nerve roots. In the lower back, it may cause pain, heaviness, tingling, or weakness in the legs that worsens with standing or walking and eases with sitting or bending forward. Laminectomy removes part of the vertebral arch to enlarge the space for the nerves. Record what activities bring on symptoms, how far you can walk, and whether sitting changes them.
