When is hormone therapy recommended for breast cancer in men?

Laboratory testing examines the breast tumour for oestrogen and progesterone receptors. If these are present, hormone-directed medicine may slow hormone-sensitive cells. The plan can differ according to whether treatment follows surgery, is being used for a return of cancer, or is intended to control cancer that has spread. Other illnesses and medicines also matter.

Give the oncology team a full list of prescription medicines, supplements, and previous treatments. Take each dose as directed and discuss changes in sexual function, mood, energy, hot flushes, or bone and joint symptoms. Your clinician may review other health needs while monitoring how the cancer responds.

Tell the care team about new or worsening breast or chest swelling, persistent bone pain, unusual bleeding, severe weakness, or symptoms that begin soon after a medicine change. Seek urgent help for sudden breathlessness, chest pain, fainting, sudden confusion, or new weakness on one side.

Ask what the receptor report says, why hormone therapy is advised, how it will fit with surgery or other medicines, how side effects will be managed, and what monitoring is planned for bone, heart, or other existing health concerns.
