When is GP consultation recommended for Meniere's disease?

Meniere's disease involves episodes of spinning dizziness associated with inner-ear symptoms such as hearing change, tinnitus or a blocked sensation. Similar symptoms can have other causes, so a GP assessment helps review the timing, triggers, medicines and hearing changes. The GP may arrange hearing assessment or specialist review rather than assuming every dizzy spell is Meniere's disease.

Record when each episode starts, how long it lasts, whether hearing changes on one side, and whether nausea, headache or a recent infection occurs. Sit or lie down during an attack, avoid driving and use support if walking feels unsafe. Bring a list of medicines and mention falls, work hazards or symptoms that interfere with daily activities.

Seek emergency care for sudden weakness, facial drooping, trouble speaking, new severe headache, fainting, chest pain or inability to walk safely. Urgent assessment is also needed for sudden hearing loss, continuous severe vomiting, a head injury or dizziness with new vision or coordination problems.
