When is fat transfer recommended for thin lips?

Fat transfer uses fat taken from another area of the body and places it into selected parts of the lips. It can address volume loss and may allow shaping of the upper lip, lower lip, or border. It does not correct every cause of lip asymmetry, a long upper-lip appearance, scars, active inflammation, or changes caused by a dental problem.

The lips may be swollen, bruised, tender, or uneven while healing. The surgeon discusses how much volume is appropriate and whether the desired change is subtle or more noticeable. Your tissue quality, facial proportions, health, and previous procedures all affect the plan.

Book an examination with a qualified facial plastic or cosmetic surgeon. Mention cold sores, allergies, autoimmune conditions, medicines, supplements, smoking or nicotine use, dental treatment, and prior fillers or lip surgery.

Ask where donor fat will be collected, how the lips will be shaped, what anaesthesia and recovery involve, and how asymmetry or contour changes would be handled. Treat active sores, infection, or unexplained swelling before elective lip surgery.

Contact the surgical team for worsening pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, wound separation, or swelling that is not settling. Seek urgent help for trouble breathing or swallowing, rapidly increasing swelling, severe colour change, or signs of a serious allergic reaction.
