When is fat transfer recommended for tear trough hollows?

A tear trough is a depression along the transition between the lower eyelid and cheek. Shadowing can also be influenced by pigmentation, visible vessels, puffiness, skin looseness, or cheek structure. Fat transfer adds a person’s own fat to selected areas; it does not treat every reason the under-eye may look dark or tired.

Because the eye region is delicate, the surgeon assesses eyelid shape, skin quality, bags, asymmetry, previous surgery, and general health. Swelling and bruising are expected considerations, and the final appearance changes as healing progresses.

Seek an in-person consultation with a qualified oculoplastic or facial plastic surgeon. Bring details of eye disease, allergies, medicines, previous fillers or surgery, and any tendency to prolonged bruising or poor healing.

Ask whether fat transfer is addressing a hollow, a bag, or both; where donor fat would come from; what anaesthesia and recovery involve; and how asymmetry or contour irregularity would be managed. Protect the area from sun and follow the aftercare plan.

Before elective treatment, have new one-sided swelling, a sudden change in vision, persistent pain, or an unexplained eyelid lump assessed. After surgery, seek urgent help for vision change, severe eye pain, rapidly increasing swelling, heavy bleeding, fever, or spreading redness.
