When is surgical excision recommended for neurofibroma?

A neurofibroma is a growth involving nerve-supporting tissue. Some remain stable and need observation, while others become troublesome because they rub against clothing, affect movement, or create ongoing discomfort. The clinician considers depth, size, location, nerve involvement, and whether complete removal is practical. Removing a lesion can provide tissue for examination, but a deeper or nerve-associated growth may need specialist planning to reduce the chance of nerve injury.

Book a skin assessment if a lump is enlarging, becoming firm, changing in character, or causing new pain, tingling, weakness, or movement difficulty. Tell the clinician about other similar growths, family history, previous operations, medicines, and any change in sensation.
