When is electrolysis hair removal recommended for hirsutism?

Hirsutism describes excess terminal hair in a pattern that is often associated with androgen activity, such as on the chin, upper lip, chest or abdomen. Electrolysis places a fine probe into an individual follicle and uses electrical energy to disable that follicle. It can suit a small number of prominent hairs, mixed hair colours, or areas where precision matters. It does not investigate or treat a hormonal driver, so a new or rapidly changing pattern still deserves medical assessment.

Arrange an assessment if the hair growth is new, spreading, or accompanied by irregular periods, acne, scalp hair thinning or voice change. Ask which hairs should be treated and whether another treatment should address the underlying cause. Choose a trained practitioner who can explain probe hygiene, skin preparation, expected redness and the need for repeat appointments as hairs enter different growth phases.
