When is dupilumab treatment recommended for prurigo nodularis?

Prurigo nodularis causes intensely itchy, firm nodules that can develop after repeated scratching or rubbing. The itch–scratch cycle can thicken the skin, create open areas, and interfere with sleep and concentration. A dermatologist checks that the nodules fit this diagnosis, looks for infection or another skin disorder, and reviews treatments already tried. Dupilumab targets inflammatory signals involved in the disease; it is considered within a broader plan that may include wound care, itch control, and protection from scratching.

Tell the clinician where the nodules are, how itch affects sleep, whether the skin bleeds or becomes infected, and which medicines or creams you use. Discuss the injection schedule, storage, expected response, skin-care routine, and follow-up. Keep nails short, cover areas that you scratch, and use the prescribed moisturiser or treatment while waiting for medical advice. Do not inject a medicine obtained from an unverified source.

Arrange prompt review for nodules that become increasingly painful, hot, swollen, or drain pus, or for redness that spreads. Seek urgent help for breathing trouble, faintness, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat after treatment. Eye pain, significant redness, or vision change should also be reported quickly.
