When are dermal fillers recommended for marionette lines?

Marionette lines run from the corners of the mouth toward the chin. Their appearance can reflect changing skin support, movement, facial structure, or downward pull around the mouth. During assessment, the clinician looks at the line while your face is relaxed and moving, checks the chin and lower cheek, and considers whether treating a nearby area would create a more balanced result. Filler placed directly into a line is not automatically the right plan; adding volume in the wrong location can make the lower face look heavy.

Bring a list of medicines, allergies, previous cosmetic injections, dental procedures, and skin problems around the mouth. Tell the clinician if you have active sores, infection, or inflammation, because treatment may need to wait. Discuss the product, injection depth, expected temporary swelling or bruising, alternatives, and the plan for review. Use a qualified medical professional who can explain the anatomy and provide follow-up rather than choosing solely from a photograph or promotional claim.

After treatment, contact the clinic promptly if pain increases, swelling becomes pronounced, the skin develops an unusual pale or dusky colour, or the area blisters. Urgent assessment is needed for vision changes, severe facial symptoms, breathing problems, or widespread hives. Early review helps the treating team decide what action is needed.

Ask what is creating the line, whether direct or nearby treatment is proposed, how facial balance will be preserved, what temporary effects to expect, and who to contact outside clinic hours.
