When is combined pill recommended for endometriosis?

The pill contains oestrogen and progestogen. It can prevent ovulation and make the womb lining thinner, which may reduce menstrual flow and cramping. Some people use it with fewer or no scheduled breaks to reduce the number of bleeds, if their clinician advises this approach. It controls symptoms but does not remove endometriosis deposits.

Choice depends on your pain pattern, bleeding, pregnancy plans, other medicines, migraine history, blood pressure, smoking, and personal or family history of blood clots. The combined pill is not suitable for everyone, and another hormonal or non-hormonal option may fit better.

Before starting, describe pain during periods, sex, bowel movements, or urination, along with bleeding between periods. Tell the prescriber if you have migraine with aura, clotting problems, liver disease, high blood pressure, or recently gave birth. Take the pill exactly as directed and report troublesome effects rather than stopping silently.
