When is chemotherapy recommended for retinoblastoma?

Retinoblastoma care is planned by a specialist team that considers the child's age, tumour location and size, whether one or both eyes are involved, and whether disease is inside or outside the eye. Chemotherapy may shrink a tumour so that local treatment can target it, reduce the chance of cancer returning in nearby tissue, or treat disease that has spread. Some children instead receive a treatment directed into or around the eye, depending on the findings. Protecting vision and the child's wider health are central parts of the plan.

Keep appointments with the paediatric oncology and eye teams, and bring a complete record of medicines, allergies and previous procedures.
