When is chemotherapy recommended for primary peritoneal cancer?

Primary peritoneal cancer affects the lining of the abdomen and can involve several nearby surfaces. Treatment planning therefore considers scans, biopsy findings, the amount and location of disease, whether surgery can remove visible cancer, and your general health. Medicines may be given before surgery to shrink or control disease, after surgery to treat cancer cells that may remain, or as the main treatment when an operation is not suitable. The oncology team chooses the drugs, schedule and route according to the cancer's features and your needs.

Ask whether your treatment plan includes surgery, chemotherapy, or both, and which sequence is being considered. Before treatment, share all medicines, supplements, allergies and existing conditions. Arrange practical help for appointments and recovery, and ask how fever, nausea, reduced appetite, bowel changes or tiredness should be managed.
