Book a clinical review for a new, persistent, enlarging, or painful lump rather than trying to diagnose it by touch. Bring any earlier breast imaging reports if available and mention changes linked to your menstrual cycle, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Ultrasound usually involves gel on the skin and a handheld probe. Follow the clinician’s advice about whether the finding needs review after the scan.

Seek prompt care if a lump becomes rapidly larger, very painful, red, or hot, or if you develop fever or feel acutely unwell.
