When is Botox recommended for frown lines?

Short answer
Botox may be recommended for frown lines when repeated eyebrow contraction creates visible creases between the brows and you want temporary softening.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Common target
- Muscle activity between the eyebrows
- Expected aim
- Softening creases while retaining chosen expression
What frown-line treatment involves
Frown lines, also called glabellar lines or elevens, appear between the eyebrows when the muscles pull the brows inward or downward. Botulinum toxin reduces the nerve signal to selected muscles, so the skin folds less during frowning or concentration. Lines that remain at rest may improve only partly because skin structure and sun exposure also matter. Facial anatomy, brow position, eyelid shape, and the amount of movement you want to keep all influence the plan.
Making an informed choice
Choose a qualified clinician who can assess the whole upper face rather than treating the crease in isolation. Discuss previous injections, brow or eyelid heaviness, facial asymmetry, headaches, medicines, pregnancy, and neuromuscular conditions. Ask how the clinician will preserve a natural expression and what effects such as bruising, headache, brow heaviness, or temporary eyelid drooping could occur. Sun protection and appropriate skincare may support the skin but do not relax the underlying muscles.
When to seek medical care
Seek medical assessment before cosmetic treatment if frown lines appear with sudden facial weakness, severe headache, vision change, or other new neurological symptoms. After treatment, report pronounced asymmetry or eyelid drooping to the provider. Seek urgent care for breathing, swallowing, or speaking difficulty, or signs of a severe allergic reaction.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether the creases are driven mainly by movement, how brow and eyelid balance will be considered, what alternatives help lines at rest, and when follow-up is needed.

Questions people ask
Are frown lines only caused by stress?
Repeated expressions can contribute, but skin elasticity, sun exposure, and facial anatomy also affect how lines appear.
Can Botox prevent every frown line?
It can reduce muscle-driven creasing in a treated area, but it does not prevent all skin ageing or erase every line.
