When is acid reflux medication recommended for helicobacter pylori infection?

Helicobacter pylori, often called H. pylori, is a bacterium that can irritate the stomach lining and contribute to ulcers or indigestion. Treatment commonly uses a clinician-selected combination of medicines, and an acid-reducing medicine may be included to lower acid exposure while the infection is treated. It can ease burning or upper-abdominal discomfort, but it is not an antibiotic and does not remove the infection on its own. The regimen should be chosen with your medical history, allergies, and previous antibiotic use in mind.

Take every prescribed medicine for the full instructed course, even if discomfort settles early. Follow directions about timing and food, and ask before adding an antacid or other acid product. Tell the prescriber about pregnancy, allergies, liver or kidney problems, and medicines or supplements you use. A follow-up test may be advised to check whether the infection has cleared; ask when to take it and whether acid medicine must be paused beforehand. Do not share antibiotics or reuse an old prescription.
