What to know about frozen shoulder in people with diabetes

Frozen shoulder, or adhesive capsulitis, develops when the capsule around the shoulder becomes painful and tight. Reaching overhead, putting on clothes, fastening clothing, or reaching behind the back may become difficult. Symptoms can change gradually, with pain sometimes more noticeable at rest or at night before stiffness dominates. Diabetes is relevant to the overall plan, but shoulder pain can also come from a rotator cuff problem, arthritis, neck nerve irritation, or injury.

Arrange assessment if pain or stiffness is affecting sleep or daily activities. Keep the shoulder gently moving within a tolerable range and continue diabetes care as advised.
