What to expect from vaginal pessary fitting for uterine prolapse

The pessary sits inside the vagina and provides support to the uterus and nearby tissues. The clinician considers your examination findings, symptoms, activity, and ability to manage the device. Several fittings can be needed before the support feels secure without pressure on the bladder, bowel, or vaginal walls.

You may be asked to walk, bend, cough, and urinate before leaving. Tell the clinician if you feel pain, pinching, fullness, or a sensation that the device is falling out.

Use the wearing schedule given by the clinic. Ask for a demonstration of removal and cleaning if self-care is appropriate for you. Keep follow-up appointments, particularly after the first fitting, so tissue irritation and the position of the pessary can be checked.
