Lichen planus is an inflammatory condition that can cause itchy, flat-topped bumps or plaques on the skin. It may also affect the mouth, genitals, scalp, nails or other sites. A topical corticosteroid calms inflammation in the treated area and may lessen itch and irritation. Colour changes can remain after active inflammation settles, so appearance may improve more slowly than symptoms. Mucosal disease needs site-specific medical advice.

Use the exact preparation and schedule prescribed, applying it only to the intended area. Avoid the eyes and do not use a skin product inside the mouth or genitals unless a clinician has prescribed it for that site. Keep nails short and use gentle, fragrance-free skin care to limit trauma from scratching. Do not extend treatment or add occlusive coverings without advice. Report new lesions, mouth soreness or scalp and nail changes at review.
