The technology does not remove the need for clinical judgement or rehabilitation.

After surgery, care focuses on pain control, wound monitoring, knee movement and safe transfers. A physiotherapist usually teaches walking with an aid, exercises for the thigh and ankle, and ways to manage stairs. Later work develops bending, straightening, strength, balance and confidence for daily activities.

Before the operation, ask about medicines, fasting, transport and arranging help at home. Afterwards, complete the exercise plan, walk in the manner taught and use cold therapy or elevation only as advised. Protect the wound, take prescribed medicines as directed and avoid rushing stairs, driving or heavier tasks. Keep follow-up appointments so movement, swelling and the incision can be reviewed.

Call the surgical team if the wound becomes increasingly red, painful or leaky, or if fever or worsening calf pain develops. Seek urgent assessment for sudden breathlessness, chest pain, a cold or pale foot, new severe swelling, inability to bear weight or a knee that suddenly changes shape after a fall.
