What to expect from RF microneedling for stretch marks

Stretch marks are areas where the skin has stretched and its supporting structure has changed. RF microneedling places fine needles into selected skin and delivers radiofrequency energy at a controlled depth. This creates small, deliberate areas of stimulation while heating tissue beneath the surface, which can prompt new collagen remodeling. The aim is to soften the contrast and texture of stretch marks, not to erase the skin’s history.

A clinician may adjust needle depth and energy for the location, colour, width, and age of the marks. Treatment on the abdomen, thighs, hips, breasts, or other areas may feel different because skin thickness and sensitivity vary.

During the appointment, the skin is cleaned and a topical anaesthetic may be used before the handpiece passes over the marks. You may feel pressure, warmth, or brief pinching. Afterwards, redness, swelling, tenderness, or pinpoint crusting can occur. These effects generally settle as the skin repairs itself.

Follow the clinic’s instructions for cleansing and moisturising. Avoid picking at crusts, vigorous rubbing, and unapproved active products while the surface is recovering. Protect the treated area from sun exposure and tell the clinician about medicines, active rashes, a tendency to form raised scars, or changes in pigmentation before treatment. Improvement is gradual because collagen remodeling continues after the appointment.

Contact the treating clinic promptly if pain or swelling is worsening rather than settling, redness is spreading, the area becomes increasingly hot, or drainage develops. Seek urgent medical care for facial swelling, trouble breathing, faintness, or other signs of a severe allergic reaction. A blister, marked colour change, or delayed healing also deserves clinical assessment.
