What to expect from pulsed dye laser treatment for rosacea

Rosacea can cause flushing, persistent redness, and small visible vessels. Pulsed dye laser targets blood in superficial vessels and may reduce the appearance of fixed redness or thread-like vessels. It does not remove every rosacea trigger, and flushing or inflammatory spots may need separate medical care. A clinician will assess your current pattern before choosing treatment.

Each pulse may feel like a quick snap or sting, with cooling used when suitable. The face may look red or swollen afterward, and treated vessels can appear purple before fading. Improvement is judged after recovery, not by the immediate appearance.

Discuss current medicines, active flares, cold sores, recent tanning, and your history of colour changes after skin treatments. Ask how to manage skincare and whether any rosacea treatment should be paused. Treatment may be postponed when the skin is irritated or infected.

After the session, cleanse gently, avoid rubbing and intense heat, and use only products approved by the clinic. Protect the face from sunlight and follow instructions for cooling or prescribed ointment. Keep follow-up appointments so persistent redness and new vessels can be distinguished from temporary irritation.

Contact the clinic if facial pain, heat, swelling, or redness is worsening, or if blisters, drainage, fever, or spreading tenderness develops. Seek urgent help for eye pain or vision change, breathing difficulty, or facial swelling. A new persistent rash or wound also deserves prompt assessment.
