What to expect from prescription antiperspirant for underarm sweating

The active ingredient forms temporary plugs at sweat-duct openings, reducing the amount of sweat reaching the skin surface. It does not remove the sweat glands. Early use may cause stinging, redness, dryness, or itching, especially after shaving or on damp skin. A clinician may recommend a lower frequency once control is established.

Follow the prescribed directions and apply a thin layer before sleep, when sweat production is usually lower. Wash the area in the morning if directed. Do not apply immediately after shaving, to broken skin, or over a rash unless your clinician says to do so. If irritation develops, pause and ask whether a bland moisturiser, a different schedule, or another option is suitable.

Seek medical advice for marked swelling, blistering, severe burning, spreading redness, or a rash that does not settle after stopping the product. Arrange a review if sweating begins suddenly, occurs during sleep, or comes with fever, dizziness, chest discomfort, or unexplained weight change.
