Follow-up after treatment for chronic lymphocytic leukaemia

Your haematology team may ask about energy, infections, fevers, night sweats, weight change, bruising, swollen glands and medicines. A physical examination and blood count can show how your blood cells are recovering and whether further assessment is needed. Some visits focus on treatment effects, immune health and emotional wellbeing rather than an immediate test result.

Keep a record of new symptoms, infections and medicines, including supplements. Attend blood tests before appointments when arranged, and bring questions about vaccines, work, activity and infection precautions. Do not stop prescribed treatment without advice. Keep the follow-up plan available so you know whom to contact between visits.

Contact your clinical team promptly for a fever, chills, worsening breathlessness, unusual bleeding, rapidly enlarging swelling or feeling suddenly very unwell. Seek urgent help for severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, confusion or uncontrolled bleeding; these symptoms need immediate assessment regardless of your next scheduled review.

Ask which blood tests are planned, how results will be shared, which symptoms should trigger a call, and how long monitoring is expected to continue. You can also ask how previous treatment affects infection risk and what support is available for fatigue or anxiety.
