What to expect from physiotherapy for repetitive strain injury

Short answer
Expect an assessment of the task causing strain, followed by graded exercises and practical changes to restore comfortable use of the affected area.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Understanding the problem
Repetitive strain injury describes pain, aching, tingling or weakness linked with repeated movement, sustained posture or forceful use. Your physiotherapist will ask about work, study, sport, tools, sleep and symptom timing. They may examine movement, grip or other task-specific strength and nerve signs, then look for ways the activity can be shared across different muscles and positions.
Steps that support recovery
Your plan may include short movement breaks, gentle mobility, progressive strengthening and advice on keyboard, tool, lifting or sporting technique. Complete exercises at the prescribed level and change only one workload factor at a time. A temporary adjustment is usually more useful than stopping every activity; the aim is to build tolerance while monitoring pain, numbness and function.
When to seek medical care
Seek review if symptoms continue despite reducing the aggravating task, disturb sleep, or interfere with work or self-care. Arrange prompt assessment for increasing numbness, loss of grip, dropping objects, visible weakness or symptoms that travel from the neck into the arm. Sudden weakness or severe swelling needs urgent care.
Questions to ask
Ask which task changes matter most, how much discomfort is acceptable during exercise, and when to resume heavier work. If symptoms include tingling or weakness, ask whether nerve testing or another assessment is needed.

Questions people ask
Should I stop using the affected area?
A short reduction in aggravating load may help, but complete rest is not always needed; guided gradual use can rebuild tolerance.
Can workplace changes be part of physiotherapy?
Yes. A therapist may suggest changes to setup, grip, posture, breaks or task rotation.
