What to expect from ovulation induction for anovulation

Your clinician first considers why ovulation is absent or irregular and may arrange blood tests or ultrasound. Medicine can be taken by mouth or given by injection, depending on the plan. Ultrasound and sometimes hormone testing help show how follicles are developing and guide the timing of intercourse or insemination.

Possible effects include headaches, nausea, breast tenderness, mood changes, abdominal discomfort or bloating. Treatment may be paused or changed if the ovaries respond too strongly or if the timing is not suitable. A pregnancy test is arranged at the time your clinic recommends.

Take each dose exactly as prescribed and do not change the schedule after a missed dose without calling the clinic. Attend monitoring visits, report new symptoms, and avoid taking additional fertility medicines unless they are part of your plan. Contact your fertility clinic urgently for severe or increasing abdominal pain, marked swelling, repeated vomiting, faintness, breathing difficulty, or much less urine than usual. Seek emergency help for collapse, severe breathing trouble or sudden intense pain. These symptoms can indicate an excessive ovarian response or another problem requiring assessment.
