Pemphigus vulgaris can cause fragile blisters and raw erosions on the skin or mucous membranes, including the mouth. Oral corticosteroids dampen the immune activity that contributes to blister formation. The goal is usually to bring new blistering under control, then reduce exposure to the medicine as the disease becomes quieter.

Healing skin may remain tender, and mouth lesions can make eating or drinking difficult. A dermatologist may track new blisters, erosions, pain, oral intake, and signs of infection. Other immune treatments or wound care may be discussed when corticosteroids alone are not enough or when reducing them is difficult.

Take the prescribed doses consistently and follow the specialist's tapering instructions. Do not stop suddenly. Protect open areas with the wound-care plan provided, use gentle cleansing, and choose soft foods or cool drinks if mouth erosions hurt. Tell the team about every medicine, supplement, vaccine, and infection exposure.
