Tinea versicolor is a surface yeast imbalance that can create lighter or darker patches, often on the chest, back, neck, or upper arms. A clinician may choose tablets when the affected area is extensive, keeps returning, or has not responded adequately to a topical option. The medicine targets yeast activity; it does not immediately restore pigment, so treated patches can remain visibly different after scaling and active infection have settled.

Take the prescribed medicine exactly as directed and tell the prescriber about liver disease, pregnancy, breastfeeding, allergies, and every medicine or supplement you use. Do not share tablets or add another antifungal without advice. Keep skin dry after bathing, avoid irritating products, and use sun protection because tanning can make colour differences more noticeable. Follow-up may be useful if patches continue to spread, itch, scale, or recur.

Contact a clinician promptly for yellowing skin or eyes, unusually dark urine, severe nausea, persistent abdominal pain, widespread rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty after a dose. Arrange a review if the diagnosis is uncertain, treatment is not tolerated, or new patches appear despite completing the prescribed course.
