What to expect from narrowband UVB phototherapy for dyshidrotic eczema

Dyshidrotic eczema, also called pompholyx, can produce intensely itchy small blisters on the palms, fingers, or soles. Narrowband UVB directs controlled ultraviolet light at selected affected areas. The team may use a cabinet or a device suited to hands and feet, depending on the treatment plan. Skin is checked at each visit because active blisters, cracks, and sensitivity can change how exposure is given.

Tell the clinic about medicines, supplements, sun exposure, a history of light reactions, and any infection or open fissures. Keep the treated skin moisturised as advised, avoid extra sun exposure, and use the eye protection provided. Do not apply an unapproved product before a session. Keep a note of new burning, marked redness, or worsening itch so the dose can be reviewed.

Report painful redness, blistering beyond the treated eczema, severe burning, or swelling after light exposure. Get medical help for spreading warmth, pus, fever, or rapidly worsening cracks, since these findings may need treatment separate from phototherapy.
