Nevus of Ota, also called oculodermal melanocytosis, is blue-grey pigmentation involving skin around the eye and sometimes nearby eye tissues. Laser toning is aimed at pigment in the skin, so the clinician must map the area carefully and confirm that a suitable specialist is treating it. The eye itself needs specific protection whenever treatment is near the eyelids or orbital area.

A session can cause warmth, brief snapping, redness, swelling, or temporary darkening. Pigment usually fades progressively as treated cells clear, and the depth and extent of the pigment affect the response. The clinician may use conservative settings and review the skin before planning another session.

Disclose eye conditions, vision symptoms, medicines, previous laser treatment, tanning, and a history of raised or dark scars. Arrive with clean skin if instructed and avoid unapproved creams or makeup around the treatment site.
