What to expect from hysteroscopic polypectomy for endometrial polyps

The hysteroscope lets the clinician see the inside of the uterus. Fluid gently expands the cavity so the polyp and its attachment can be identified. A small instrument removes the growth, and the tissue can be sent for laboratory examination. This method avoids an abdominal incision and is selected according to the polyp’s position, symptoms, fertility plans, and medical history.

Ask whether you need to fast, change medicines, or arrange someone to accompany you home. Afterward, period-like cramps, tiredness, and light bleeding or watery discharge may occur. Use only the pain relief and vaginal products approved by your clinician, and follow instructions about bathing, sex, tampons, work, and exercise. Keep the follow-up appointment to discuss the tissue result and whether symptoms need further monitoring.

Contact the care team for worsening pelvic pain, heavy or prolonged bleeding, fever, chills, dizziness, or foul-smelling discharge. Obtain urgent help for severe pain, fainting, collapse, or breathing difficulty. These warning signs should be assessed rather than attributed to normal recovery.
