What to expect from HIFU treatment for submental fullness

Submental fullness may reflect a layer of fat, loose skin, or both. A clinician first examines the skin and contour to decide whether HIFU is suitable and which depth should be used. Focused ultrasound delivers energy at selected points; the aim may be skin tightening and, with some devices and plans, improvement in the appearance of the area rather than a guaranteed change in fat volume.

You may notice sharp warmth, pressure, tingling, or brief tenderness during pulses. The jawline can feel sore or look swollen afterward. Changes are usually assessed over time, because the body needs time to remodel treated tissue. Results vary with skin laxity, anatomy, device settings, and whether fullness is mainly fat.

Share your medical history, dental or facial implants, medicines, recent injectables, skin infections, and any altered sensation under the chin. Do not conceal a new lump, unexplained pain, or difficulty swallowing; those symptoms need assessment before a cosmetic procedure.

After treatment, keep the area clean, use products recommended by the clinic, and avoid heavy pressure or vigorous massage while it is tender. Protect exposed neck skin from sunlight. Arrange review if the contour remains unclear, because a clinician may need to distinguish swelling from the developing result.

Call the clinic if swelling or pain is increasing, the skin becomes blistered or unusually pale, or numbness persists or spreads. Obtain urgent care for difficulty breathing or swallowing, rapidly developing facial or neck swelling, or marked weakness around the mouth.
