What to Expect from Finasteride Therapy for Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia

Frontal fibrosing alopecia can cause a receding frontal hairline, eyebrow thinning, scalp symptoms, and permanent loss when follicles scar. Finasteride may be used as one part of a plan intended to reduce ongoing activity or support stability. It does not reverse established scarring, and visible regrowth is not a reliable expectation.

Your clinician may inspect the hairline and eyebrows for redness, scaling, follicle changes, or extension of the affected area. Progress is judged over time using examination and photographs, often alongside other treatments. The plan depends on your age, health, pregnancy potential, medicines, symptoms, and whether the condition is active.

Use the medicine only as prescribed and keep scheduled reviews even if the hairline appears unchanged. Take consistent photographs in similar lighting and note itching, burning, tenderness, scaling, eyebrow change, or new facial hair loss. Tell the clinician about fertility plans, pregnancy possibility, liver problems, and every medicine or supplement you use.
