Ciclosporin changes immune activity that can help drive persistent wheals and itching. It is generally reserved for difficult-to-control chronic spontaneous urticaria, rather than being a routine first choice. Your clinician will review your medical history, medicines, blood pressure, and kidney health before treatment.

The dose is individualised. Some people notice fewer hives and less itching after treatment begins, while others need an adjustment or a different plan. Improvement does not remove the need for monitoring, because ciclosporin can affect blood pressure and kidney function and may interact with other medicines.

Take each dose exactly as prescribed and do not change or stop it without contacting the prescribing clinician. Attend blood tests and blood-pressure checks on the schedule provided. Give the team a complete list of prescription medicines, supplements, and over-the-counter products before starting anything new.

Avoid grapefruit products if your clinician advises this, and ask before receiving a vaccine or taking an anti-inflammatory medicine. Contact your treatment team promptly for fever, signs of infection, severe headache with visual changes, chest pain, or a marked drop in urine.
