Ewing sarcoma can begin in bone or soft tissue. Chemotherapy uses medicines that circulate through the body, helping treat cancer cells that may not be visible on scans. It may start before an operation or radiotherapy, continue around local treatment, and resume afterward. Your team chooses the schedule according to the tumour’s site, imaging findings, age, health, and response.

Before an infusion, clinicians may check blood counts, kidney function, liver function, weight, and symptoms. Treatment can involve a cannula or central line. Nausea, tiredness, reduced appetite, hair loss, mouth soreness, and lower blood-cell counts are possible. Some medicines can affect hearing, nerves, kidneys, heart, or fertility, so ask which checks apply to your regimen.

Use prescribed anti-sickness medicines proactively and tell the team if they do not control symptoms. Wash hands regularly, protect your mouth with the care routine provided, and avoid close contact with people who are unwell when your clinicians advise extra precautions. Keep fluids and easy-to-eat foods available, and accept help with transport and chores.

Record pain, bowel changes, numbness, ringing in the ears, hearing changes, urine changes, and any fever. Do not start supplements or over-the-counter medicines without checking. Discuss fertility preservation before treatment begins if this is relevant to you, because some chemotherapy medicines can affect reproductive function.

Contact the oncology team urgently for a fever, chills, or sudden feeling of illness. Seek emergency care for breathing difficulty, chest pain, confusion, fainting, severe allergic symptoms, uncontrolled bleeding, or inability to keep fluids down. Report a blocked, painful, or red central line promptly, as an infection can worsen quickly.
