Your team may ask where pain occurs, what it feels like, what worsens it, how it affects sleep and movement, and whether it is present at rest. The plan is adjusted to your response, kidney and liver function, other medicines and goals. Pain relief is monitored alongside alertness, constipation, nausea and breathing.

Take medicines on the schedule provided and keep a brief record of pain, activity, sleep and side effects. Do not stop an opioid suddenly or share it with anyone. Ask about constipation prevention, safe movement, walking aids and how to store medicines. Report pain that breaks through the plan early, because the team may adjust the dose or add a rescue option. Palliative care can work with oncology treatment at any stage.

Seek urgent medical help for new leg weakness, numbness, loss of bladder or bowel control, or severe back pain, as these can signal pressure on the spinal cord. Sudden severe pain after a minor movement may indicate a fracture. Get emergency help for marked sleepiness, slow or difficult breathing, confusion, or inability to wake after pain medicine.
