What to expect from Botox for bromhidrosis

Bromhidrosis is noticeable body odour associated with sweat and the breakdown of substances on the skin. Botulinum toxin decreases nerve signals to sweat glands in the treated region, so less moisture may be available for odour-producing processes. It does not directly remove bacteria, treat every skin condition, or explain odour that comes from another source. Your clinician may examine the skin for irritation, infection or another contributor before recommending injections.

Describe where the odour occurs, whether sweating is heavy, and whether there is itching, rash, discharge or a sudden change. Share your medicines, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, and any nerve or muscle disorder. Follow instructions about washing, shaving and deodorant before treatment. Afterwards, avoid rubbing the treated skin and use only products your clinician recommends while injection marks settle. Keep the area dry with gentle cleansing and seek review if odour persists despite less sweating.

Arrange prompt medical review for painful redness, warmth, pus, spreading rash or fever around injection sites. Get urgent help for difficulty breathing or swallowing, severe weakness, or rapidly spreading symptoms. A new strong odour with a wound, discharge or systemic illness also deserves assessment because injections may not address the underlying problem.
