Your clinician chooses an antibiotic and schedule based on your test result, symptoms, pregnancy status, allergies, and other medicines. Some regimens are a single supervised dose, while others involve doses over several days. Symptoms such as discharge, burning, pelvic discomfort, or testicular discomfort may take time to settle after treatment starts. Treatment does not undo irritation or complications that developed before diagnosis, so follow-up matters.

Follow the label and finish the prescribed course unless the prescriber changes it. Do not share tablets or use leftover antibiotics. Avoid sex until the treatment window given by your clinician has passed and partners have been assessed and treated when needed. Tell recent sexual partners so they can seek testing. Use condoms afterwards to reduce the chance of another infection, and attend any recommended retest.

Contact a clinician if symptoms are worsening, do not begin to improve, or return after treatment. Seek urgent care for severe lower abdominal pain, fever, faintness, vomiting, or sudden severe testicular pain. If you are pregnant, arrange prompt follow-up because untreated infection can affect pregnancy care.
