Atrophic scars are depressed or indented areas where supporting skin tissue was lost during acne healing. A clinician examines their depth, edges, location, skin tone, and whether acne is still active. Laser energy can create a controlled response in the surrounding skin, encouraging remodelling that may soften uneven texture. A shallow rolling scar may be approached differently from a narrow deep scar, and laser may not address every scar equally.
