Gastritis is inflammation or irritation of the stomach lining. Acid-reducing medicines may ease burning, upper-abdominal discomfort, nausea, or reflux symptoms while the lining recovers. The response depends on why the irritation started; possible contributors include an infection, anti-inflammatory pain medicines, alcohol, or another medical problem. Feeling better does not prove that the underlying cause has gone.

Take the medicine exactly as prescribed and follow any timing instructions, because some products work best before food. Do not stop a prescribed course or add another acid-reducing product without checking with a clinician. Smaller meals, avoiding personal trigger foods, and remaining upright after eating may reduce irritation. Tell your clinician about regular painkillers, supplements, pregnancy, kidney problems, or other medicines so interactions and longer-term use can be reviewed.

Seek urgent medical help for vomiting blood, black or tar-like stools, severe or worsening abdominal pain, fainting, or marked weakness. Arrange medical review if symptoms persist despite treatment, keep returning, or come with trouble swallowing, repeated vomiting, unexplained weight loss, or loss of appetite. These signs need assessment rather than a change in medicine by yourself.
