What is white cell growth factor used for?

Neutrophils are white blood cells that help the body respond to bacterial and fungal infections. Some chemotherapy and other cancer treatments can temporarily slow their production in the bone marrow. A growth factor signals the marrow to produce and release more neutrophils. It may be given by injection on a schedule chosen around your treatment, either to reduce the chance of a low count or to support recovery after one occurs.

The medicine does not treat the tumour itself. It is supportive care, and it does not remove the need to follow infection precautions or report symptoms.

Take each dose exactly as prescribed and keep blood-count appointments. Ask before taking new medicines, including non-prescription products.
