What Is Vitamin D Analogue Treatment Done With?

Calcipotriol is a vitamin D analogue used on selected areas of inflammatory, scaly skin disease, particularly psoriasis. It acts locally on skin cells and immune activity to help reduce excessive scaling and inflammation. It is not the same as taking vitamin D supplements, and supplements should not be substituted for the prescribed treatment.

The medicine may come as an ointment, cream, lotion or another topical preparation. The suitable form depends on the body site and the clinician's instructions. It may irritate sensitive skin, and extra care is needed around the face, skin folds and genitals unless specifically prescribed there.

Use the amount and schedule prescribed, applying it only to the affected skin. Wash your hands after application and keep the product away from the eyes and mouth.
