Placenta accreta occurs when the placenta grows too deeply into the womb lining or muscle and may not separate normally after birth. The team plans the birth in a hospital prepared for complex surgery, blood loss and newborn care. The placenta is generally left in place rather than pulled away, because attempted separation can trigger severe bleeding.

Attend specialist appointments and ask how imaging, timing, anaesthesia and blood preparation will be coordinated. Tell the team about previous uterine surgery, medicines and any bleeding. A Caesarean Section delivers the baby through an abdominal operation; Hysterectomy removes the womb and means a future pregnancy cannot occur.
