What Is Shoulder Stabilisation Surgery Done With?

A suture anchor is a small implant placed in bone. Suture attached to the anchor is passed through a torn or loosened labrum and capsule, then tied to bring the tissue back toward its attachment. This can restore tension around the socket and help limit unwanted movement of the upper arm bone.

The approach may be arthroscopic through small openings or open through a larger incision. A Bankart repair commonly addresses tissue detached from the front of the socket. Other operations, including a Latarjet procedure, may use a different method when bone loss or repeated instability affects the surgical plan.

Before surgery, ask which stabilisation procedure is planned and whether bone loss changes the approach. Tell the team about previous dislocations, operations, medicines, allergies, and work or sports demands. Arrange help with daily tasks because the operated arm may be protected in a sling.

After surgery, keep the sling and wound care instructions in place. Do the prescribed hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder exercises at the advised stage. Avoid sudden reaching, lifting, or supporting your body with the repaired arm until cleared.

Call the surgical team for increasing wound redness, drainage, fever, uncontrolled pain, or a feeling that the shoulder has slipped again. Seek urgent help for a cold or blue hand, new numbness or weakness, chest pain, or breathing difficulty.
