What is a rapid antigen test kit used for?

The kit uses a swab to collect material from the nose or throat. The sample is placed into the supplied liquid and applied to a test device. If the target protein is present at a detectable level, the device shows a test signal alongside its control signal.

A positive result can support a diagnosis, but the meaning depends on symptoms, timing and the test's instructions. A negative result does not always exclude infection, especially when testing is done early, the sample is inadequate or symptoms continue.

Follow the kit instructions closely, including sample collection, timing and reading the control line. Check the expiry date and use the kit as intended. If the result is positive, follow local medical and public-health advice. If it is negative but you remain unwell or have had a significant exposure, contact a clinician about repeat or confirmatory testing.
