What is rabies vaccination done with?

An inactivated vaccine contains virus material that cannot multiply. It presents a target to the immune system so the body can develop protection without receiving live rabies virus. Any unassessed bite, scratch or saliva exposure to broken skin or the eyes needs prompt medical advice because rabies prevention works before illness develops. Seek emergency care for heavy bleeding, a deep wound, facial or hand injuries, breathing difficulty, fainting or signs of a severe allergic reaction after an injection.
